In 2017, the independent European music prize will be awarded for the first time in Leipzig. The final winners will be announced in January 2017. On April 1st, the prizegiving ceremony and the award gala will take place in Leipzig Gewandhaus with the participation of the Leipzig Gewandhausorchester.

The prize was last given in San Sebastian in 2016. There, the Dinorah Varsi "Legacy" Box received the Special Award as an "outstanding music production."
