Violinist Riyo Uemura was born in Tokyo. After studying in Tokyo, she studied in Cologne with Igor Ozim, with Pierre Amoyal in Lausanne, and with Manfred Scherzer in Berlin. She is a laureate of many international competitions, including first prize at the International Violin Competition “Michelangelo Abbado” in Italy, the highest award in addition to the “Mozart Prize” at the International Violin Competition “Leopold Mozart” in Augsburg, and the Nippon Steel Music Award.
As a soloist, she has played over 90 concerts with major orchestras in concert halls such as the Philharmonie Berlin, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Musikhalle Hamburg, and the Herkulessaal Munich. Her Bach solo recitals, Brahms recitals and Beethoven cycle were a great success. Riyo Uemura has made guest appearances at festivals in Russia, France and Germany. She was featured in the radio broadcast on Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) and a CD recording of Schumann’s Violin Concerto was released in 1995.
Her recordings Violin Sonatas by French Composers and Fauré Violin Sonatas from Camerata Tokyo received the highest praise from the pioneering Japanese media. In addition to her solo activities, she has played first violin in the Physis String Quartet since 2020.
