Frank Dupree plays Eötvös work "Erdenklavier-Himmelklavier"

The Hungarian composer Péter Eötvös died on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at the age of 80. The pianist Frank Dupree recorded Eötvös' work "Erdenklavier-Himmelklavier" on his album "Opus 1", which was released in 2015. At the time, it was a world premiere recording written by the composer in memory of Luciano Berio, who was a close friend.

When Péter Eötvös spoke to Frank Dupree about his work, he told him the idea behind it. "First there is a musical dialog between heaven and earth. Then it sounds as if Berio is rising higher into the sky from bar to bar, until finally the keyboard of the grand piano ends and Berio's spirit floats off further into the sky." (Excerpt from the booklet)

In honor of the composer Péter Eötvös, whose spirit is probably now reunited in heaven with that of Luciano Berio, we present Frank Dupree's recording for the album "Opus 1".
